English LanguageGrade 2-12
Our after school and weekend English classes: reading and writing for grade 3-12, is designed to empower students by providing them with strong communication skills, an understanding and appreciation of language and literature, and the capacity to engage fully as literate and responsible citizens in a digital age, enables students to use language confidently and competently in a variety of situations for communicating, personal satisfaction and learning.
Our after school English classes is comprehensive. The module lessons and ALL Block immerse primary students in content-based literacy, learning skills via text sets based on compelling topics. These two components of the curriculum complement each other to give students strong, active literacy instruction. The curriculum honors students’s growing capacity to read complex text, write at length and with depth, and explore pressing issues in the world around them.
Students consistently read complex text to gain both deeper content knowledge of the topic and deeper familiarity with the structures, syntax, and vocabulary of complex text.
Writing for understanding. As students write to show understanding of particular content, they both synthesize that content and acquire transferable skills and approaches to new writing situations, becoming more independent writers.
Students are guided in their learning to think critically, creatively and reflectively, become confident and competent users of language arts through many opportunities to listen and speak, read and write, and view and represent in a variety of combinations and relevant contexts, to achieve their individual potential and create a positive future.
Built for Students Success
The goal for students in our English classes is to read and understand complex, grade-level texts and express their understanding of those texts through speaking and writing. Expressing understanding of texts can be done both orally and in writing.
Students are ready for college or a career if they can read, understand, and express their understanding of complex, grade-level texts. This means students should be able to pick up any text, such as a picture book, the newspaper article, or painting, understand what the text means, and be able to speak or write about the ideas they learned or challenge from the text and why.
We adopt the famous LearnZilliion Language Arts Guidebooks, a top-rated curriculum on EdReports, to supports students in reading, writing, and expressing an understanding of complex, grade-level texts, to ensure all students meet the goals. Our language arts program fosters a love of deep reading and skilled writing, empowers students by providing them with strong communication skills, an understanding and appreciation of language and literature, and the capacity to engage fully as literate and responsible citizens in a digital age, enables students to use language confidently and competently in a variety of situations for communicating, personal satisfaction and learning.
